The Water Transport division run under the name of Waterways is also a strategic part of the group and is a focus area with the opening up of the inland waterways.

We are capable of transporting over-dimensional equipment over water. Our pioneering experience in lighterage operations at the Ports of Alleppey, Beypore, Calicut and Quilon proves invaluable in the planning and implementation of water transport logistics.

The towing of lighters loaded with goods meant for trade was the initial activity. Goods from the interiors of Kerala were loaded aboard lighters and towed through the backwaters of Quilon, Alleppy and Cochin for the traders of Cochin

With the development of industries around cochin, the lighters were also used to transport raw materials which arrived in bulk carriers at the port of cochin. Waterways provided a cost effective and effecient way of trasnporting the raw materials from the port of cochin to industries on the river banks around cochin by undertaking the towing operations of lighters which were done on a round the clock basis.

Waterways has been the contractor for the dredging division of the Public Works Dept, Govt. of kerala, for the towing of dredgers along the backwaters of kerala for various reclamation projects and for the construction of temperory bunds which are needed to prevent the salinity of the backwaters.

The commencement of the Cochin Oil terminal ( C.O.T) brought about the need for service launches to be used for ship to shore operations. Waterways has been providing service launches to transport spares/ provisions/ personnel etc for almost 2 decades.

Waterways, the first private operator to introduce twin screw launches to undertake heavy towing jobs and for use at outer roads provides services (crew transfers/ transport of workshop personnel/ transport of supplies etc) for vessels at the outer anchorage.

The vast experience of Waterways is put to use for the handling of lash barges at the port of Cochin. The towing of barges frome the vessel to the berths as well as the shifting of barges at the berths after loading and discharge are undertaken.

Our launches have large deck spaces which are ideal for conducting hydrological surveys. Our launches have been used for hydrological surveys along the channels of the port of cochin as well as the backwaters around the port of cochin.
